Y'awll just might grit your teefies as I grind this out

Holy Hominy, Batman! Fell in love (mostly do to scarce money) at an early age: Incoming $$$ was so tight that We had to make do; so here's somma what We made do: Grits for breakfast. Then, home after school, fried -- yes, fried -- grits . They were kinda like risotto, 'cept fried.

Other than eating me some grits -- lumpless, PLEASE! -- with some hefty sprinkles of black pepper, and some GENEROUS pats of unsalted butter. I likes me some shrimp and grits.

Now that, from overby here, is my nitty-gritty on grits.

I also am a fan of grits, although I don't partake of white carbs much these days. I bought a couple of cardboard cans of grits last time I was home in Houston, since grits are scarce over here.

Let us not forget red-eye gravy, for those rare occasions when both grits and bacon are on the breakfast menu (although my coffee is decaffeinated, but it usually is adulterated with chicory).

Funny this subject should come up this week. Sunday I made a great pot of grits, my first grits in months. First fried some chopped bacon, then added chopped onion, chopped tomato and a little dill. Served with a pat of butter. Good with eggs and Korean veggie scullion pancake (from Trader Joes). :geek:

Am glad to be among other grits lovers. Heh! Ain't no shame in my game: I've often asked for a bowl of grits and scrambled eggs. But sometimes, I like to save a few of the eggs to stir into the bowl.

Also a funny thing about grits: In the U.S. Army, I found some fellow soldiers who had heard of grits, but never tried them. But I almost gave my ownself's self a "lump" on the head when two others chimed in that they (You'll pardon my yelling here, please) HAD NEVER HEARD OF GRITS.

Oh. Another thing about grits: I've known some folks who treat grits like they treat their rice: they insist on eating their grits with honey and milk

While vacationing in Maine, we stopped at a Katy's, a small diner in Ellsworth, ME, for breakfast. GRITS on the menu! Asked if the owner is from the south, but,no. She's a local gal who just happens to love grits. We ordered, and they were great. Thank you, Katie, you made our morning.
