ilikenola, forgot you were in Picayune - I have to work there on Monday, is there anywhere you would suggest for a quick lunch or should I bring an egg salad sandwich with me? Poor Sadie, this thread must be killing her.

Why does the price of gas per gallon fall when a gas station serves cooked food?
Bob, two words answer your question - loss leader. It's a marketing stragedy. There is not much profit in selling just gasoline. The big profit is made in selling everything else...food, refreshments, beer...and expecially powerball tickets. Selling gasoline at a lower cost brings customers into the store to buy the profitable items. This is why you always see gasoline mini-marts these days. EXAMPLE: I like RaceTrac gas. It's consistetly the lowest price and I like their fresh coffee. Everytime I gas up and go inside to get a cup of coffee, there's always a big line with people buying everything else mentioned above...especially powerball. The days of the free standing gas station selling only gasoline - very rare!!!

I don't think it has anything to do with cooking food. The answer may have something to do with "Ethanol" Places like Brother's sell gas with ethanol
Shell, Exxon and Chevron gas does not contain corn... (among other things)
BTW: Does anyone know what a station receives on a gallon of gas?

Sadie, within the past year or two there was a long thread on microwaves, with lots of back-and-forth opinions, mostly on topic. Just use the search feature. Live action is more fun, but Lake's back pages are full of treasures, too.
Btw, when I stop for gas, all I do is fuel up. No coffee, snacks, or other overpriced consumables. But I would make an exception for Chef Airline, if I ever get back to the city.

I agree with this statement...but the exception for me is RaceTrac coffee. It's very reasonably priced, always freshly brewed with many selections to choose from. I'm a coffee lover and it gives me a convenient opportunity to sample different types of fresh & hot, good tasting coffee for a couple of quarters...my opinion only.
