RE: the post further down on cast iron: The topic came up and tho I wasn't there, I had mentioned the initial post -- and responses -- to a family member. It is reported back that there was a hot discussion not only about cast iron but taking care of all cookware; but especially cast ironware.

As lore holds, 'Out Of The Mouths Of Babes', there's one Young'un who hopes to seek training first to become a dietician and then formal training as a chef.

Well, she made a call to me and hipped me to this bit of research she had found: Young'uns: Ya never know-- but us elders would do well to lend some ears.
