There I said it. I am toying with the idea of making my Grandmother's recipe because it calls for weeks of feeding it bourbon. Also I can make it more cake than fruit. It's all part of my yearly desire to fake Fall. Since we only get Fall on paper, I need to convince myself it's not still the dreaded Summer. Been looking at cold weather recipes but this is a good start.
What would you cook if the wind shifted and the leaves that are falling from the trees were getting burned in piles and you <gasp> needed a light jacket in a few weeks? For me it would be a roasted root veggie medley, Goulash soup or Ramadan( Sept 1)Soup. I am also thinking of an Autumn dinner party and Oktoberfest( which in truth takes place in September).
I bet no one else has made fruitcake or have you? Come clean.
Yeah, I made it once, pretty early in my career. The day the oven decided to heat up and just keep on heating. Not one of my better outcomes. Just about cried at the cost of the wasted ingredients. Maybe I should try it again; in the 30+ years since, we have managed to acquire a decent oven.

I loved my late mother's fruitcake. She made a light cake that had almonds and not pecans in it. Soaked in Brandy for a month. I might try to make one this year.

I LOVE fruitcake and make it every year. I have a list of people who LOVE fruitcake, and I share with them. I'd be surprised if you can find the ingredients in the summer. If you do, they're from last year!
First cold day -- vegetable soup. But that's a long way off.
