I fount the website to borrow ebooks from the Jefferson Parish Public Library: http://jeff.lib.overdrive.com

When I axed about it a while back at the Tastee Donut liberry in Harahan, dey dit'n know nothin' about it. Glad I stumbled across it on line somehow.

Alls ya gotta do to sign in is input ya liberry cawd numbah.

The selection is limited, but they had enough to keep me interested.

You can put up to 10 titles on your wish list, as I learned when I maxed out. They email you when one of your choices is available. I'm on my second one now, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (to prepare myself for seeing the movie, eventually). So far the book is a hoot.

Edited to add Kindle to subject line.

Not just Kindle. You can borrow the ebooks with other ereaders, too. Most are availabe in epub and other formats than just Kindle, which are specifically formatted for only Kindle. You're right there's limited titles, but it's taking them a while to collect them. The publishers are making them dance around their rules and limitations.

I'm all for technology....but I think it's sad that the up-and-coming generation doesn't know how to appreciate the simple things in life....visiting the local library...the joy of checking out a book from the local library....writing a letter with pencil and paper... and calling a friend on the landline.

FYI

If you want more choices of ebooks for your kindle or other ereader, you can get a free Orleans Parish library card at any NOPL branch. I find they have different ebooks than Jefferson. I got mine because they're getting ready to reopen the Algiers Regional Library. This way I have access to both parishes' books and ebooks.

Their ebooks: http://neworleans.lib.overdrive.com

I just got a Kindle for Mothers day and I love it! I need to see if my library loans Kindle books.

BDale- the nice thing about it is you can still go to library or handwrite a letter, the beauty of it is you can do it either way.
