Builder of one of the best cars of all time, the Cobra, and many others that rode right along the top, Carroll Shleby passed away today at the age of 89. One of the longest surviving heart transplant patients in the US. Could have posted this on the food board, because millions of people used his Chili Kit over the years. RIP you ole chicken farmer! And go look up Enzo. I bet he's looking for a race...

Sharky, thanks for posting this interview link...it was very interesting to listen to Carol Shelby describe in his own words how the Cobra evolved with the Ford Motor Company. I remember well the Ford racing Cobras and the Shelby Mustangs. I come from a Ford family. My grandfather sold Fords during the 40's, 50's, 60's, and early 70's in Houma. This interview brings back many memories of Ford Motor Company during this time. Thanks for sharing.
Great clip. Watched an old one on the right sidebar from 1965. It was funny to see how scripted it was compared to the modern day easy style. And in '66, Shelby pronounced it Amurican cars.
Couple brushes with Shelby/Cobra. First Saints owner John Mecom, Jr. owned a Ford GT40. Sweet car. The car that brought Ferrari to it's knees. Ford had made an offer to buy Ferrari, and at the last minute, Enzo backed out on the deal. Ford said he would put everything he had into beating them at their own game. And he did with the GT40!
Second was we were testing out to purchase a used 1969 GT500 Cobra. The I10 between Kenner and Laplace had recently opened. We had a 428 Cobra-Jet Torino playing with us, and we hit the new stretch with the pedal to the floor. Did not let off and brought her all the way to 145 mph on the speedo. No sight of the Torino. What a machine.
Would love to pick up one of the Superformance Cobra cars. They are pretty much replicas of the originals. Sweet!
