On Monday I'm going to rent a car for 2 days or so while I get my car's A/C repaired.
MFDC just told me it's going to be $85. While in the long run, that's not alot . . . .
I'd really rather spend that amount of money out on a nice meal of course, but that's not happening either as it is freakin car repair time!
Both cars!

It's been a year since I've rented a car & of course prices have gone up.
The best deal I can find, which at this point is Enterprise at $39 a day plus tax, etc. for a little economy car.

Does anyone here have a source for discount car rental or something? Any advice is appreciated!
Heck, I'd even take car rental coupons at this point!
(We've spent a few thousand on car repairs this year & have 3K more to go)

$39. a day? Jump on it. I would faint if you would find something cheaper. Does that include milage?

Isa, the car repair thing seems to be out of hand, IMO. Too much money being spent on that one car. I've owned my car since 2003 and have not repaired it ONCE. That is why I buy Toyotas.

I would just say that Budget and Enterprise are the 2 cheaper car rental places. Hertz is more expensive.

Today is Friday. I would pay the 39. and have the peace of mind of the reservation then waiting longer to save a dollar or 2. Only my opinion

I use Enterprise whenever I have the need for a rental. They pick you up, drop you off, whatever you need. I'd go for the Enterprise deal.

Forgot to ask- Do you have AAA? They have discount car rental coupons and you would save considerably.

I just saw Cop's post. I completely agree. Enterprise was the best Jerry, the best when it came to customer service. That's my choice also.

We already have the Enterprise Reservation. The getting picked up part is what we like.
That way we don't have to bum a ride or have both of us go.

I just remembered the old MFDC is a AARP member! I told him to call back!
Yes, we have AAA too. We are also going to ask about "Temporary Replacement Vehicle Rate".

MFDC will drop off car to repair shop & go to a coffee shop a block away & get picked up.
We do NOT want the car repair guy to know we have a rental car!!!

Hopefully the repair will only take a day. We'll see, we're not banking on it.

Maria, you know old MFDC. He had to have a bug. I told him it was a big mistake. I knew it would be, I could just feel it.
I should have stood my ground. That car has been nothing but trouble. But to try to sell it without A/C would be stooopid.
So that's why we are fixing it, cleaning it up & putting a FA SAIL sign on it.

I'd like to buy a Prius. But Professa Okie explained why that would not be the best choice in the moment.

My 3rd grade teacher just passed away. I am going to see if they would sell her Toyota to me.
She was in her 80's & well, you know the rest of the story!

That would tide us over for now til we could make another purchase.

We are also looking in to leasing as we both have our own bizzes. Nothing fancy, just a little economy car, but big enough to put a massage table in comfortably.

Somebody from TOB suggested priceline.com & said they got a $12 a day rental last month!!!!

I think rates are higher becuz SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER! (I luved that song!)

Wow we just rented a economy car (Toyota Yaris) For a quick trip to Panama city beach last weekend We paid 17.50 per day It always amazes me how much more things cost in New Orleans.

Same here Ann. I rented a mid-size car from Enterprise in January after my wreck, and it was around $25 a day. My insurance would pay up to $30 a day, so I didn't have to necessarily get the cheapest thing they had. I'm surprised at the big difference in price in NO.

Isa, be careful of leasing. I leased my last 2 cars. Be careful. Even tho you have a biz, you can still write off the car if you purchase it. Lucky for me with this camry, I was able to pay it off and it was well worth it b/c it is a 2003 and I had 40,000 miles on it or something like that.

CRAFT prevents me from remembering what kind of rental car we are getting, but it is one we are considering buying. A Nissan.
So, we pet 2 birds with one hand.

About leasing, yes, we need to find out much more. I think in the long run getting a lease & buying a car, you probably come out about even.
Remember all the car repairs vs turning in the car after 2 yrs. If that's how it still goes.

On the other hand, I'd love to buy a good, clean, well kept used car - a Nissan, Toyota or Honda. Not too old & low mileage.
But I'd have to know what I was getting into & don't want to make a purchase just to do it. It needs to feel right.

JaG, do you know more about this car down the street?

Yes, it used to be cost of living in N.O. was on the lower end. Not any more!
