I was always lucky to have a boat, my fave a 32 ft houseboat. I lived on the river. That was the funnest thing I ever did. I had snowmobiles, I fished, I rode horses, I traveled a lot (in US) I have been able to do so much, but now I feel like Stella. Where did my groove go? Is it just a age thing? What is your idea of fun, or what do you enjoy more than anything in the world? I love gardening but there has to be more to life than green beens.

Hmmm MisRiv, you got me thinking about how much fun I used to have water skiing, but if I went now, I'd probably injure myself somehow. When I was even younger, it was so much fun to skate, I loved it! Now I'd be afraid to get on skates. Haha the first think that popped into my mind upon reading your question was genealogy and cooking, two rather passive activities compared to the physical ones I used to enjoy. So maybe it is an age thing, although I hope to get a new bike when the weather cools off a bit. I hope that's still fun. Maybe I'd better rent one first!

Being contrary is the only pleasure I have left. I should have been in construction. I think renovating is fun. I'm doing the next best thing, redoing a spare room. Getting that end table repaired, painting, getting rid of the rug my folks had 2 rugs ago in their den ( perhaps burning it would be fun?) I found my table repair guy and I committed myself to $100 of new coverlet for the bed ( it's so pretty!). Next is bed skirt and curtains. I informed Spousal $1000 of redecoration is the price of my sanity for living here another year. Maybe painting will tire me out and shut me up. Maybe the redecorating will get so expensive moving will look better?

No debating my sanity, please, but I realize as I grow older that my idea of fun is to accomplish something physical, and mostly at what people would consider work. I enjoy mowing my lawn, pressure washing the house and patio, scrubbing things clean, and renovating things, just like my cousin, schatze. Physical work relaxes me and I get such a wonderful feeling of satisfaction for a job well done. That's not to say that I don't enjoy company of friends and I like to visit and play cards on the weekends with friends, but the older I get, the more I have just let myself succumb to being an introvert who likes to work. The only sport I really enjoy is golf, but that's at least a four hour time commitment and I don't often get that luxury any more.
The first house I owned was 50 years old when I bought it and had previously been owned by an elderly lady who hadn't done anything cosmetic to it in years. It wasn't just a house, it was an adventure. I completely sanded down the entire bathroom and repainted it, replaced all fourteen windows (in one weekend), excavated seven layers of paint from the front door, replaced the sliding glass door, retiled the kitchen and bath, painted the exterior twice, and generally brought it up to today's standards keeping the character of the house to its architecture. I enjoyed painting and changed the colors of the rooms whenever the mood hit me. I still get to enjoy the joys of home ownership by fixing little things that break in this house, but the satisfaction of watching a pitted out house evolve to one that shines is missing.

I spent 12 years in Catholic school. What would I know about fun?
LOL, Towanda! I was in the same boat until I managed to get asked to leave St. Aloysius in my 10th year (I had been there since 6th grade and St. Leo's before that). Francis T. Nicholls High School was like a breath of fresh air!
To answer the question, "What do you consider fun?", I must say our weekend day trips are the high points of my days off. Getting out and visiting old places, discovering new places and making new friends can't be beat in my estimation.
