"Boogalee" (the otter's name in the article) brings back memories of my grandmother (born and raised in New Orleans) who used the word to describe some neighbors and towns-people in New Roads. Seeing "Boogalee" in that article brings back many memories to me.

Has "Boogalee" been relegated to the same politically non-correct barrel as "Dago" or "Wop"? Please know that I am of Italian heritage and have no problem describing myself as either.

Yeah, Lake. I think it's kind of a snarky term. However, when my mother first moved to N.O. at age 16 she used to say she was just an old Boogalee from Pointe Coupee. Lost her accent within a year because everyone made fun of her.
