The New York friends who are going with us to New Orleans in a few weeks are intrigued by our stories of Chef Pete. Is he cooking anywhere? Pop-ups? Anything? PaulaRat and I haven't had the pleasure of Pete's cooking since he was turning out glorious dishes in Richmond in 2010, and we miss him. And speaking of missing, but for an even longer time, how 'bout Chef Chris DeBarr?

I'm looking forward to seeing the RatChucks again!

As far as I know, Pete is doing his own thing on a weekly basis but Isabella could tell you all about that. Chris...he's no longer at Green Goddess or the place in the Can Company complex -- I don't know what he's up to now.

From TF's article on restaurant closings during 2013, these comments were made:

12. Serendipity. Mid-City: 3700 Orleans Ave. 504-407-0818. Chef Chris DeBarr has a brilliant and original mind, the kind that attracts ardent followers. Who did follow him through at least a half-dozen restaurants. Health problems seem to have ended this episode. (The stark dining room was no bonus.) Chris will be back somewhere.

From Chef Chris DeBarr's Facebook page it sounds like he is awaiting knee surgery in Portland, Oregon.

We knew about Chris's closings, but not about the surgery. Our wishes for his total recovery and return go out to him, if he can drag himself away from Portland.

Isabella? Our remaining hopes seem to be with you.

Rest assured that the RatChucks are looking forward to seen all of you, too!

Chef Pete currently operates a popup (called the Hush Supper Club) at Stein’s Deli on Magazine St. on Sundays evenings starting at 6 PM. It’s all done by preorder. A person subscribes to his email list. Pete sends out the menu to the email list subscribers the week before. A person orders what they want and picks up the order at Stein’s on Sunday night. Every week it’s a different menu. It all looks very interesting.

Here’s an article when the operation started.

Thanks, Big Dale! But it sounds like it's take-out only...?

Regardless, we'll sign up for the email, and if we can't make it (staying in a hotel makes take-out challenging, especially for 4 people!), we will get to drool every week!
